Welcome to the Superintendent’s Message:
The 2015-16 school year is quickly approaching. I sincerely hope all of our students, staff, parents and community have experienced a wonderful summer. I want to welcome all of you back and thank the entire Southeastern Community for their support in educating our children. The following are some highlights from the summer.
This summer has witnessed more positive changes within the district. Miami View Elementary received new bleachers for the gymnasium. In a addition both gyms are being repainted and floors are being redone. This fall the district will be resurfacing the track and has purchased a new scoreboard for the soccer field. The district also purchased and received new weight equipment for the weight room.
The district with the assistance of Yamada North America and the Southeastern Band Boosters has purchased a new trailer for marching band. Teachers are getting new computers for their work stations and students are also getting more Chromebooks to utilize within the classroom. The parking lots at Miami View are also being repaved this summer.
This summer the State of Ohio dropped PARCC testing for Math and Reading. It has been replaced with Reading and Math testing from the American Institute for Research (AIR). AIR currently provides the end of year tests for Social Studies and Science. This change was done in the Governor of Ohio’s two year budget proposal. It prohibits the State of Ohio from spending money on PARCC testing. The Common Core is still in place for the State of Ohio.
Southeastern Local Schools will continue to make progress toward educating our students for college and career readiness. We will provide them with the necessary resources for future success. At the same time we will remain mindful of our heritage and the importance it has in our everyday lives.
Thank you,
David Shea
