Dear Parents and Guardians:
According to school board policy, Miami View School is responsible to conduct health screenings, including head-lice screenings, when there is evidence that such a condition exists.
We are asking that all families participate in periodic checks of your child for head lice. Head lice can be on anyone’s head. It is our hope that your family is free of this condition. Here are some tips that might help.
How to find the nits (lice eggs): nits are clear, white or light brown in color. It is as long as 1/8 inch or (1). A nit sticks to the hair shaft firmly. It has to be pulled free with your fingernails and a fine-toothed nit comb. Whereas dandruff, glitter, mulch or playground dirt will brush off easily, nits won’t. The adult louse looks like a flake of dandruff that moves quickly. It is approximately 1/16 inch long, or (--), about the size of a sesame seed. It is a grayish-white color and a teardrop shape. There are many over the counter products available to rid the home and family of lice, the Health Dept. has products and information available as well.
After a student has been treated for lice, they must be nit-free to return to class. Trained office staff will check the student to make sure all of the nits have been removed. The student may then return to class.
