High School Incident


On Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, the central office administration confirmed that an incident occurred in the afternoon on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at Southeastern High School involving a student possessing a firearm in the closed console of the student’s vehicle which was parked in the High School parking lot.  The firearm was found by Southeastern High School’s administration during a properly authorized search of the student’s vehicle. The High School administration was involved with the School Resource Officer in the handling of the matter. The student was taken into custody immediately by law enforcement authorities without incident.  The student has not returned to school at this time, and no other weapons of any kind were found in the student’s vehicle or on school property. 


I would like to take this opportunity to thank our valued School Resource Officer, the South Charleston Police Department and our Southeastern High School administration for their very prompt and thorough handling of this matter.  I would also like to take this opportunity to assure you that our buildings, grounds and school property are safe.


Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all members of our school district community that if you see something or sense something out of place or out of the ordinary within our school community, please report it to a school administrator, law enforcement, or to our School Resource Officer.  The safety and security of our campus and our students is our top priority, along with providing an excellent and stable environment for our students to learn.
